Wood Stain on Leather?

We have been using Minwax® Gel Stain* on our leather projects for about eight (8) years now. We use nothing else! It is the only one we've found that worked and we have tried several.

  • Add a couple tablespoons of pure neetsfoot oil to the small-sized can, stir well. This makes it easier to apply and spread easier on uncarved surfaces, also conditions the leather all in one step. It still works without it if you don't have the neatsfoot oil.
  • We have had no problems with it holding it's color
  • Finish with whatever product you like after it dries
  • Just don't leave it on long before you wipe; it dries quickly ... put it on, wipe off (I use cut squares of felt, leaves no fuzzies, and apply with the dabbers you get from leather stores or as my granddaughter calls them, horse Q-tips)
  • Aged Oak is a nice, light to medium color that we use a lot.
